This book is small, compact & hardcover! If you have the newer version of this book "The New Mythic Tarot" you certainly do not need this book. The text is the almost the same word for word. In the newer/updated version, the author added extra esoteric/historical tarot information. Interestingly, the original book doesn't place much, if any emphasis on kabbalah. I the "New Mythic Tarot" book, you'll reading about kabbalah this and kabbalah that, certainly nothing new about kabbalah, tree of life & tarot. Most tarot deck & book sets these days go on about kabbalah, which is convenient for people who have never read a word about it. Frankly, this is the reason why I skip reading most intros in these accompanying tarot books.

In this book, you don't have to skip the intro. Read it and move on. It is simple and straightforward. I prefer the size of this book compared to the ungodly large size of the newer book. There are very small black & white drawings of each of the cards, but that's it. At the end of the book, you'll find only one spread, the Celtic Cross. What I do like about the newer book (the only thing) is that there are several options for spreads. I wish I could locate an affordable deck that accompanies this book. The new deck is a graphic disaster. Most cards in the new deck are blurred or fuzzy. This is, overall, a quality book and the hardcover is a major plus. If you can find a copy, I highly recommend you acquire it. If you have the new book, set the two side by side and prepare yourself. It's all the same, word for word, with minor updates to phrases & sentence structure. Enjoy! (ana/amazon.com)
